Jere Gettle started Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds out of his bedroom as a teenager in 1998. Since then the company has grown to be one of the most respected seed suppliers for home gardeners.

I had the pleasure of visiting their Mansfield, Missouri location several times to speak at their Spring Planting Festival. It’s an amazing place, heaven for anyone interested in planting heirlooms. I’ve grown some really cool stuff from the catalog including ‘Hmong Red’ cucumber, ‘Italiko Rosso’ dandelion, Purple ‘Blauwschokkers’ garden pea, little ‘Biquinho’ hot peppers and much more.

Jere and his family travel the world to discover unique seed varieties.

He’s put out this video showing the 12 favorite heirlooms he’s come across in his journeys. Take a look at the video and catalog to find something different and wonderful to grow next season.
