Pennsylvania’s 2nd largest rose garden almost in full bloom

If you want to see the second largest rose garden in Pennsylvania in full bloom, mark June 9 on your calendar.

The Pittsburgh Rose Society and the Garden Club of McKeesport are hosting their fifth annual “Rose Day at Renzie” from 1 to 4 p.m. June 9. The event at the Renziehausen Park Rose Garden is free to the public.

The Rose Garden at Renziehausen Park in McKeesport, shown in full bloom in the past. It’s one of the greatest collection of roses in Western Pennsylvania.

Renziehausen, which is an All-America Rose Selection garden, has more than 1,800 rose bushes, with about 1,200 that will be blooming. Only Hershey Park’s garden has more roses.

Other activities include guided tours and workshops on the following topics:

• How to start roses from cuttings

• Cleaning and maintaining your pruners

• Drying flowers to use in arrangements

• Rose disease control
