Join me at the 13th annual Red Ripe and Roasted Tomato and Garlic Festival at Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens on Sunday Aug. 27, 2017 from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. I’m one of the founders of the festival, it’s a way to get fresh garden produce to people who are hungry. The Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank will have a refrigerated truck on site to receive all the donations. I know gardeners are happy to give their extra harvest to the food bank, we’ve collected tons of food over the years. I’ll be there all day.
If you love tomatoes and garlic, this is the place to be. I’ll be cooking Ultimate Garlic Infused Salmon on the grill at 12 noon for everyone to taste.
Enon Valley Garlic will bring dozens of different varieties to use in the garden. The key to growing great garlic is starting with the right type, and there’s no shipping charges.
There will be food, vendors, cooking demos, tastings, farmers market, kids activities and the great contest for the biggest, smallest and ugliest homegrown tomato.
As always I’ll be paying my daughter $25 to dress up as a tomato!
Hope to see you there!
