The sun is breaking through misty fog as temperatures soar to 60 degrees kicking off a welcome thaw. That’s all it takes for a snow crocus to quickly emerge through wet oak leaves announcing the official start of the garden season in my garden. The flower is covered in rain drops as the weather clears. There is nothing more thrilling or beautiful that this tightly budded flower which just yesterday was still underground preparing for spring. By tomorrow it will open, revealing delicate luminescent yellow anthers and will be followed by a host of spring bulbs awakening.

Just a couple days ago cabin fever was reaching its apex and winter was endlessly dragging on. It’s amazing how the appearance of one little purple flower can turn everything around. The power of a snow crocus is hope, even though winter will return, it’s fading, giving way to all of our treasured plants.

I cant wait.
