My August Garden

This year’s gardening has been really fun. I finally put in my “green wall”, a row of pole beans, red runner beans, sunflowers and Mexican sunflowers. The result: Lots of beans! The Sunflowers were spectacular when in bloom; and afterwards, when the heads were heavy with seed, provided a bonanza for all the birds in the neighborhood. Unfortunately, the raccoons caught on and caused havoc for a while. Now that the sunflowers are spent, the Mexican
Sunflower are beginning to bloom. They are a little crowded, but we’ll see how well they do as the season progresses. And did I mention, we are getting lots of beans!
