Hundreds of guests got their fill of food at the annual Tomato and Garlic Festival, held at the Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens.

But one of the biggest beneficiaries of the event was the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank. With a donation of fresh produce, guests received free admission to Phipps. More than 1,400 pounds of food — items like fresh lettuce, peppers, eggplants and squash — was collected for the food bank.

Everybody Gardens editor Doug Oster, who helped create the event, served his Ultimate Garlic Lovers Soup for those with brave tastebuds. Here’s one of the courageous taste testers (and notice the EG “I Wet My Plants” T-shirt in the backgrounnd.
